Four workers of Reckitts Ventures, a Lagos-based electricity company, have been sent to four-year imprisonment without an option of fine after they were found guilty of conspiracy and stealing by a Lagos court.
They are Ejalonibu Teslim, 27, Okafor Azubuike, 50, and two female staff, Chidima Mbanali, 35, and Adeola Raphael, 23.
The convicts, whose company office is at 27 Olayiwola Street, Oko-Oba, Lagos were charged with conspiracy and stealing of pre-paid meters’ recharge cards worth over N2 million.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Shonubi found them guilty as the prosecutor, Inspector, Oje Uagbale proved their guilt beyond reasonable doubt before the court during trial.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the convicts were entrusted with some recharge cards worth the amount to sell on behalf of the company.
It was gathered that after selling the cards, they conspired and diverted the money into their own use.
However, the theft was discovered after the company carried out an audit and discovered that the money was not remitted into the company’s account.
When queried, the convicts could not explain what happened to the money.
The matter was reported to the Police at Area M Command, Idimu who arrested and charged them to court.
They pleaded not guilty on the two-count charges preferred against them.
They were granted bail and adjourned the matter for trial.
When the trial commenced, the prosecutor, Inspector Oje Uagbale proved the matter beyond reasonable doubt.
Consequently, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Shonubi found them guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered each convict will spend a year without an option of fine.
Hmmm. Curruption everywhere.
