A Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ebute-Metta, on Monday fixed December 6 for the trial of alleged fraudster Salami Oluwatobi, who claimed to be the Oba of Lagos to defraud his victim of the sum of N15 million.
Oluwatobi was arraigned for the alleged offence before Magistrate A. A. Ajibade(Mrs.) on September 7 by men of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti-Yaba.
He is standing trial on charges bordering on conspiracy, stealing and fraud.
The police had in the charge alleged that the 27-year-old and others at large, in the month of August 2016, at 8, Olokonla Street Ajah, in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, conspired among themselves and fraudulently obtained the sum of N15 million from one Moriselade Ajoke, under the pretence that he is the Oba of Lagos, His Majesty, Oba Osuolale Akiolu.
The police alleged that the accused claimed that he is in the position to assist his victim to procure a slot in the proposed Lekki Free Airport Investment.
According to the police, the defendant dishonesty stole the said sum from the complainant, Ajoke.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Adebayo Oladele told the court that the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 409,312 and 380(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State as(amended).
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was admitted to bail in the sum of N2 million but he is yet to meet up with the bail conditions.
At the resumed hearing of the matter on Monday, the prosecutor, urged the court for an adjournment till December, to enable the complainant who he said is in United Kingdom, receiving treatment from the shock she got from the alleged heinous act of the defendant.
The Magistrate granted the prosecutor’s request and adjourned the matter till December 6,2017.
The Magistrate also reaffirmed her earlier remand order on the defendant,pending when he perfect his bail conditions.
