God Has Prepared Obayemi As RCCG New Overseer, Says Adeboye
Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Worldwide, said that God has prepared for years Pastor Joseph Osuolale Obayemi for the task as the new General Overseer (Nigeria) of the church.
Pastor Adeboye described Obayemi as an experienced administrator who prior to his appointment as the new national overseer of the church has been part of the mission’s Salary Review Committee as well as member of the church’s In-Land Mission.
Obayemi has also represented RCCG at Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) activities across the country.
As Obayemi assumed an exalted position in one of the world’s fastest growing churches, Pastor Adeboye would oversees the activities of the church worldwide with presence in over 192 countries.
The newly appointed G.O Obayemi will also have as member of his new team Pastor Johnson Folorunsho Odesola as the new church Secretary and Pastor Joseph Adeyokunu as the church’s new treasurer.
On the New Year’s watch night service at the Redemption Camp, Pastor Adeboye declared that 2017 will be a “Year of Suprises”. Little did members of the church know that the surprises will begin with them.
Ahead of his 75th birthday in March this year, shocked the church ministers from all over the world, who gathered for the annual Thanksgiving Service at the church ultra-modern 3km x 3km auditorium located at Shimawa in Ogun State, with the announcement of Pastor Obayemi as the new national head of the church.
The church new secretary, Pastor Odesola also clarified in a memo to all Assistant General Overseers, SATGOs (Home and Abroad), Pastors in charge of Regions, Pastors in charge of Provinces, and country coordinators, that the new structure in the church was “sequel to some legal provisos guiding the operations of registered religious organisations and civil society organisations in Nigeria.”
Odesola added that “kindly be informed that this new structure is particular to Nigeria alone, as Pastor E.A Adeboye, Daddy G.O remains the Spiritual Leader and Global missioner of the Reedemed Christian Church of God.”
Since August 2014, when Pastor Adeboye announced changes in RCCG’s hierarchy and promoted some of the church’s senior ministers to cope with the challenges of growth, no one saw him stepping aside as general overseer in Nigeria, anytime soon.
Pastor Adeboye, who was ordained as General Overseer (most senior pastor) of RCCG in 1981, affirms that the new GO, Pastor Obayemi will not stop him from carrying out this functions or drive him away from the camp.
As spiritual head, Adeboye will still be allowed to conduct RCCG’s flagship ‘Holy Ghost’ services as well as visit RCCG churches.
Findings revealed that Pastor Obayemi is a close confidant of Pastor Adeboye. Until his new assignment, he was the former Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) on Finance and at many times represented Adeboye, popularly called ‘Daddy GO’ at programmes.
Obayemi represented Pastor Adeboye, at a church service organised in honour of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on May 30, 2015 at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
He was a member of the church’s governing council and was admitted into the board in August 2014.
As one of the prominent ministers of the assembly, Obayemi has been one of the decision makers as a member of the governing council of RCCG. He also seems to be a trustworthy fellow to have been picked by Pastor Adeboye to be in charge of the church’s huge finance.
Obayemi was once the pastor of Green Pastures Arena, Lagos Province 8 Headquaters at 33, Market Street, Somolu, Lagos. He was one of the seven new Assistant General Overseers appointed in August 2016.
He also headed the board of governors, House fellowship of the RCCG body.
He is married to Victoria Obayemi, also a pastor.
