Proprietor of GWAT Private Schools,  Mr Winfred Tartey has urged students in both primary and secondary schools in Lagos to show more interest in sports instead of involving in social vices that can ruin their academic career.

Tartey disclosed this at the third  Inter House Sports Competition of the school which was held at the Police Children School, Pipeline, Isheri, Alimosho, Lagos recently.

The school sports competition which was watched parents and guardians, was won by the Red House, Yellow House came second, while Blue and Green Houses occupied third and fourth positions respectively.

Tartey said sports is a veritable tool that can help the students to be physically and mentally fit ahead of future challenges, adding that students who do not involve in sports cannot be mentally and physically fit to compete favourably with their peers both in the school and at home.

He, however, urged the parents and guardians to give their wards necessary support so that they can discover themselves and possibly represent the country in future national and international sporting competitions.

“Our children need to exercise their bodies so that they will not engage in any social vice when they are in school and at home. Students involve in social vices today because they are not engaged in sporting activities. If our children involve in sports, it will make their brain work better and they will also be good academically. I want to use this opportunity to call on our governments to try as much as possible to create enabling environment so that those youth who don’t have jobs will channel their energy to sports,” he said.

Mr Abe Samuel, a friend of the school, who also doubles as the Sport Officer of Education District 1, Agege, Lagos in his speech said he was impressed with the performance of the students and urged them to remain focused in both their academic and sporting career.

In his own remark, Principal of the school, Opeifa Gabriel commended the school’s management and staff for their unflinching support to make the Inter House Sports a huge success.

While the Head teacher of the school, Mr Oboh expressed gratitude to God for the success of the competition and boasted that the next edition will be better organized and successful.
