Kiss Daniel Shines With Multiple Awards At The Headies 2016
FUNSHO AROGUNDADE
R&B sensation Kiss Daniel has emerged the biggest winner at this year edition of The Headies, taking home three awards, including Album of the Year.
The GWorldwide Entertainment leading act, who was conspicuously absent at the prestigious awards ceremony held Thursday night inside Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, also won the Headies golden statuettes in the category of Best R&B/Pop Album (New Era) and Hip Hop World Revelation.
At the 11th edition of the awards, Darey Art-Alade won two Headies with his hit track Pray For Me which earned him the Best R&B Single & Recording of The Year.
He was tied both by two indigenous rap stars, IllBliss and Olamide.
While Olamide won the Best Rap Single (Eyan Mayweather) and Best Streethop (Who You Epp), Illbliss who owns The Goretti Company also bagged two awards in the Best Rap Album and the Lyricist on the Roll.
The EME/StarBoy Records star, Wizkid reaffirmed his status as the best act of 2016 as validated by his winning the Artiste of The Year.
Starboy Entertainment’s Mr Eazi is the winner of the most coveted and controversial category of the Headies 2016 Next Rated.
The Ghana-based Nigerian born entertainer with hit songs such as Skin Tight, Sample You, Hollop and Anointing, beat YCee, Aramide and Humblesmith to claim the prize that came with a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe SUV presented by standup comedian, AY.
Just as the category elicited negative reaction in the 2015 edition between the Mavins Records and YBNL over the edge had by Mavins’ Reekado Banks over YBNL’s Lil Kesh, the 2016 people’s favourite and Triple MG star, Tekno was disqualified from the Next rated category.
In a letter exclusively published by thenet.ng and signed by Ayo Animashaun, Executive Producer of the awards, the ‘Pana’ star was disqualified for failing to participate in all of the required activities by organizers leading up to the event.
“Tekno has unfortunately not made himself available for any of the mandatory activities, hence the committee’s decision to effectively withdrawn his nomination for this year,” Animashaun stated.
Meanwhile, the awards ceremony lived up to its billing as one of the most prestigious events of the year in Nigeria, but the shine almost dimmed with the absence of several top artistes who won awards.
Conspicuously absent to receive their plaques alongside Kiss Daniel were Olamide, Patoranking, Young John, Clarence Peters, IllBliss and Bez. However, the anger over these stars’ ‘boycott’ was tempered with the presence of Wizkid on stage to pick his Artiste of the Year statuette.
The duo of talented Falz and pretty actress, Adesua Etomi were perfect hosts of this year’s award as they had a top-notch delivery, especially Falz who cracked the ribs of guests each time he’s on stage.
