Pregnant Woman Burns To Death Cooking Inside Her Home

A pregnant woman popularly known as Iya Ibeji has died after her cooking gas cylinder exploded while she was preparing food inside her home, having sustained serious injuries in Lagos.

The incident happened at Aminatu Ilo Street in Ejigbo, Lagos where she resided with her husband.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Iya Ibeji died on Friday at an undisclosed hospital at Ajao Estate, Lagos where she was admitted. It was scooped that the doctors battled hard to save her life and that of her baby to no avail until she died.

According to the residents, the late Iya Ibeji who was due to deliver by next month was visited by her female friend also living on the same street. Both the deceased and her friend reportedly went inside her kitchen to prepare the food. At the middle of the cooking, the gas cylinder inside the kitchen exploded and most parts of her body got burnt, while her friend suffered injury on her leg. She was then rushed to the hospital where she and the baby died.

When the news of her death was announced, there was commotion in the area and some people who had gas cylinders in their homes immediately suspended cooking with them because of the fear caused by her death.
When P.M.EXPRESS visited the residence of the deceased, sympathisers trooped to the place to condole with her family. Her husband was said to have gone out to make arrangements for her burial.
Some of the residents who knew her but did not know her real name described Iya Ibeji as an easy going woman who was at peace with the neighbours.
The late Iya Ibeji got married and had many children before she died. No date has been fixed for her burial as it was learnt that her corpse was deposited at the mortuary in preparation for her burial.
