A 52-year old woman, Florence Ifeanyi who needed a child and wanted to adopt one to fulfill her heart desire has landed in big trouble in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the baby boy she actually adopted was a stolen child and as such she is now facing criminal charges before a Lagos court and has been remanded in prison custody.

An embattled Florence  allegedly bought a three weeks old baby from an undisclosed source to satisfy her wish to have a child. However, the transaction turned awry as the person who supplied her the baby reportedly stole the boy from his mother.

The mother of the baby Mrs. Chioma Nwakwu reportedly had the baby and three weeks after, the baby was stolen by an unknown person which was later found with the suspect.

The incident happened at Idi-orogbo area of Ayobo in the outskirt of Lagos where the suspect resides with her husband.

The arraignment followed after the police recovered the baby and the suspect was unable to produce those that sold the baby to her.

P.M.EXPRESS learnt that though the police recovered the missing baby and handed the boy to his mother, the police found Florence culpable because she  could not produce those who sold the baby to her.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered from police sources that Mrs. Nwankwu delivered the baby and three weeks after, she lost the baby and the matter was reported to the police who went into action and it paid off.

Police sources said the suspect and her husband had no child and they decided to adopt and negotiated with an undisclosed person who they paid certain amount of money and were handed the stolen baby.

Florence had insisted that she did not know that the baby was stolen as she thought it was a genuine transaction.

However, the police said she committed offence and charged her before Ikeja Magistrates court for conspiracy and receiving stolen baby.

She pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi granted her bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum.

She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.
