How 19 Pregnant Girls Were Rescued From Babies Factory

Facts have emerged on how 19 pregnant girls were rescued from various baby factories in Lagos and the suspects were also arrested by the Police at Isheri Oshun Division.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that apart from the fact that the victims were rescued, two suspects namely Happiness Ukwuoma ‘f’ 40, and Sherifat Ipeya ‘f’ 54, who run the factories were arrested and are currently in Police net.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana. He said that on 19th September, 2019, at 1600hrs, acting on the strength of information from a reliable source, detectives from Isheri Osun Police Station led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Chike Ibe, stormed a building at No. 14 Adisa Street, Ayanwale area of Ikotun, Lagos, suspected to be used for child trafficking. DSP Elkana stated that 19 pregnant girls between ages 15 and 28 were rescued and four kids were also rescued.

He explained that the victims were rescued from four different locations which included: No. 32 Owosho Street, Governor’s Road, Ikotun; No. 29 Olugbeyohun Street, Olakunle Bus Stop Abaranja; No. 4/6 Anomo Street, Abaranja and the aforementioned address.

DSP Elkana stated that the pregnant girls and women were brought from Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Abia and Imo States and kept in the factories to deliver the babies for sale to their clients before the Police busted the areas. He said that the suspects did not receive formal medical training but operated as nurses and are natives of Imo and Epe, Lagos States respectively.
Elkana said that the Command has launched a manhunt for the principal suspect, Madam Oluchi from Mbano, Imo State. She is a mother of five. The young women were mostly abducted by the suspects for the purpose of getting them pregnant and selling their babies to potential buyers.

He revealed that the girls were tricked with employment as domestic staff in Lagos and after they were impregnated and they were delivered of the babies, are sold between N300,000 and N500,000 depending on the sex. Boys are sold for N500,000 and girls for N300,000.
Elkana said that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, has visited the scene and ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. The Command is also working with other agencies and stakeholders in rehabilitating and resettling the pregnant girls and the babies. He said that investigation was ongoing and the suspects will be charged to Court after the conclusion of investigation.
