The police have arrested two people for forging the death certificate of late Edosa Osarogiagbo and withdrawing N5.5m from his bank account in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged scam happened at the Abeokuta Expressway, Super area of Agege, Lagos, where the deceased lived and kept the particulars of his bank transactions.

The suspects, Kingsley Osarogiagbo and Mrs. Tina Edosa landed in trouble after the scam was discovered after they had already claimed the money.

They suspects were charged before a Lagos court and were remanded in prison custody for the alleged conspiracy and forgery.

It was gathered that the late Edosa passed on and kept the huge amount of money without the knowledge of his relations. After the burial, it was discovered that he had such money and there was no way they could reclaim it without procuring his death certificate.

The suspects reportedly forged the death certificate, presented it to the bank and claimed the money.
However, the rightful person who was supposed to claim the money later went to the bank and it was discovered that the suspects had already used another death certificate and claimed the money.

The alleged scam was reported to the police, the suspects were arrested and detained at the Police Command. They reportedly confessed, the police found them culpable and charged them before Ikeja Magistrates court.

They pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr. Promise Olatunji did not oppose their bail. Thus the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-afunwa granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 1 June, 2018.
