2 Company Workers Arraigned For Stealing Books Worth Over N5m

Two workers at Learn Africa PLC, Ameh David, 49 and Udoh Abel, 43, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing the company’s books worth over N5m. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between October, 2024 and May, 2025, at Learn Africa PLC located at Felix Inwerebon House, 52, Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos

 

According to the Police, the suspects were employed by the company and they allegedly stole the books in bits to the tune of the amount in question without the company’s knowledge.

 

However, the whole thing got exposed after the company conducted an internal audit and discovered that such as huge sum of money was missing from the books and they were unable to explain what happened.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at MAN Centre Division and the workers were arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the missing items.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read :

COUNT I: “That you AMEH DAVID ‘m’ and UDOH ABEL ‘m sometime in October 2024 and May 2025 at Learn Africa Plc situated at Felix Inwerebon House, 52,Oba-Akran Avenue. Ikeja, in the lkeja Magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

 

COUNT II: “That you, AMEH DAVID ‘m’ and UDOH ABEL ‘m’ on the same date time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal Books Valued (N5.188.042:22k) Five Million One Hundred, Eighty-Eight Thousand, forty-two Naira and Twenty-two kobo, property of Learn Africa PLC and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 22nd July, 2025, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
