Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command,Onikan, Lagos, Nigeria, have arrested two police officers along the Lagos -Badagry expressway for being dressed in Police Mobile (MOPOL) uniforms without authority.
After investigation by Inspector Abiodun Ogunleye and his team, the suspects, Joseph Okoya,46, and Bitrus Yahaya, 35, were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a two-count charge of being unlawfully dressed in Police Mobile uniforms and possession of police warrant card.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector S. Molo informed the court that the accused persons committed the offence on 24 August,2016 along the Lagos-Badagry expressway, Lagos.
Molo told the court that the Nigeria Police Force redeployed the accused persons from the Police Mobile unit back to the general unit,but the accused failed to report for duty and instead continued to parade themselves as Mobile Police officers along the Lagos-Badagry expressway contrary to the rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the accused were also found with police warrant card bearing their names and cardigan which they could not satisfactorily give account of how they got them.
Molo said the offences were punishable under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
The accused persons denied the police allegations and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Komolafe admitted the accused on bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Komolafe adjourned the case till 4 October,2016 for mention while the defendants were remanded at Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos pending when they will fulfill their bail condition.
