2 Food City Eatery Guards Land In Trouble For Failing To Prevent Thieves While On Duty

Two security guards, Okoli Alfred, 24 and Isaiah Amos, 23, who were employed at the popular Food City Eatery in Lagos State, have landed in trouble after  thieves stole some items worth N.8m as they were unable to prevent the thieves while on duty.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the management of the Eatery handed them over to the Police at Ikotun Division over the missing items.
The incident happened between 27th and 28th April, 2025, at Food City Eatery, along Ikotun-Idimu Road, Ikotun. Lagos, where the suspects were employed as security guards.
According to the Police, while the suspects were on duty, 700 litres of diesel valued Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N750, 000.00) and One 75 Amps motor battery valued at N95, 000, 00), total amount of N845,000 were stolen and they were not able to prevent the thieves.
They were found culpable and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you, Okolie Alfred ‘m’, Isaiah Amos ‘m’, and others still at large, between 27th and 28th April, 2025, at Food City Eatery, along Ikotun Idimu Road, Ikotun. Lagos, In the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Okolie Alfred ‘m’, Isaiah Amos ‘m’ and others stil at Large, in same period and place, in the aforesaid magisterial District, did fail to use all reasonable means to prevent the commission of a crime as security guards and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 410, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Okoli Alfred ‘m’, Isaiah Amos ‘m’ on same period and place, in the aforesaid magisterial District, did steal 700 litres of diesel valued Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N750, 000.00) and One 75 Amps motor battery valued Ninety Five Thousand Naira (N95, 000, 00), Total amount of Property Stolen is Eight Hundred and Forty Five Thousand Naira (N845, 000.00). Property of Food City Eatry and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 punishable under Section 287(7), of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A.Popoola, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 16th June, 2025, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
