Two house helps, a 27-year old man, Christopher Ikpam and a female, Miss Favour Sunday, 27, have been arrested in Lagos after they conspired, burgled their madam’s bedroom, took away 30,000 Pounds cash and escaped.
The equivalent of the said foreign currency belonging to Mrs. Cecilia Nsonwu was about N4.7m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Alhaji Jubril Laide Street, off Emmanuel Keshi area, Magodo area of Lagos, where they were engaged as house helps.
It was gathered the house helps conspired and broke into Mrs. Cecilia Nsonwu’s bedroom where the cash was kept when she was not around, stole the money and escaped.
When the victim returned, she discovered that the suspects had parked their belongings and left the house without informing anyone. She then went where she kept the money only to discover that the money had been stolen.
She reported the matter to the police. It took the prompt response of the police at FSARs to track and arrest them in their various hideouts. Both were detained at the State Command in Lagos for investigations.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed and claimed that they had shared the money with other suspects now at large.
They were charged before the Ogba Magistrates court for conspiracy and stealing.
They pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Inspector V. Eruda, did not oppose their being granted bail but asked the court for adjournment for the trial.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.I. Dan-Oni, granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 3rd October, 2018.
