Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested two staff of Impress Mark company, Omotorogun Babatunde and a 37-year old woman, Babatope Bolatito, for allegedly conspiring and stealing items worth N4.2m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Kola Market in Lagos, where the company is located and they were employed as workers.
According to the Police, the suspects were employed as workers and in January, 2024, they conspired and stole the items. While Bolatito was alleged to have stolen items worth N3m, her accomplice, Mr. Babatunde stole N1.2m worth of items.
They landed in trouble after the company conducted an internal audit and discovered that those items were missing. They were asked to explain what happened but they were unable to do so.
The matter was reported to the Police at Idimu Division and they were arrested. They were consequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence having been found culpable during interrogation.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted them bail in the sum N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 7th April, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
