2 Killed As Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

Tragedy struck on Saturday morning in Lagos after a storey building collapsed killing two victims and injuring many.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at about 10am at 9 Abege Street, Morikaz in Agege area of Lagos.

The names of the victims were given as Toyin Ogundimu,35 and a young girl, Sherifat Olalere,11 and several others who suffered various degrees of injuries.

This was confirmed by LASEMA who mobilised its officers and raced to the place on rescue mission.

In a release by LASEMA, investigations carried out by the LASEMA response team at the scene revealed that a distressed storey building suffered partial collapse. It stated that unfortunately, two persons lost their lives and another adult, Mustapher Salaudeen was rescued and treated by the ambulance crew.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu advised that occupants of the residential buildings should not ignore wreckages and crack signs. Residents were advised to call the emergency toll free lines 112/767 for prompt actions by the government.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the prompt intervention by the LASEMA, NPF, LASG Fire Service, LASAMBUS saved the situation otherwise there would have been more casualties. It was also gathered that the building lacked maintenance over the years which might have caused the collapse.

Meanwhile, the residents were said to be stranded as they moved their remaining properties from the building outside and were still shocked over what happened.
