MICHAEL AKINOLA
A 41-year old female lawyer, Barr. Idowu Okuwanna and her senior colleague, Barr. Kayode Akintan, 48, including a professional surety, Lawal Adeola, 50, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly constituting public nuisance within the Court premises over clients.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 1st August, 2025, at the Ogba Magistrate Court, Lagos, where they were arrested by the Police operatives from Pen Cinema Division of the Lagos State Command over their alleged conduct.
According to the Police, they went to the Court in the morning at about 11am and were making noise, constituting nuisance in the premises thereby disturbing the Court proceedings.
Their action drew the attention of the Court officials, who contacted the Police and they were arrested. They were charged before the same Ogba Magistrate Court on two count charges under the Criminal Law of the State.
The charges read:
“That You, IDOWU OKUWAWANNA ‘F’, KAYODE AKINTAN ‘M’ and LAWAL ADEKOLA ‘M’ on 1st day of August, 2025 at about 11:00am at Ilori Magistrate Court, Ogba Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit conduct likely to cause the breach of peace and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, IDOWU OKUWAWANNA ‘F’, KAYODE AKINTAN ‘M’ and LAWAL ADEKOLA ‘M’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by making noise and constituting nuisance in the premises of the Court while proceedings were going on and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168(d) of Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 11th September,2025, for mention while the defendants will remain in custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
