2 Men Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing N8m Foreign Canopy

Two men, Kingsley Akamiro, 34 and Precious Bassey, 27, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing iron gate and foreign canopy worth over N8m belonging to Mrs. Diamond Joy Rich.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 31st August, 2025 at Ladipo Bateye Street, GRA, Ikeja Lagos, where the items were kept.

 

According to the Police, the suspects and others now at large conspired, stole the items and escaped before the complainant discovered that the items were missing.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Ikeja Division. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspects and detained them at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.

 

The Police found them culpable after interrogation and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Kingsley Akamiro ‘m’, Prince Precious Bassey ‘m’ and other now at large, on 31st day of August, 2025, at about 0718hrs, at Ladipo Bateye Street, GRA Ikeja Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire with others now at large to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

 

COUNT II: “That you, Kingsley Akamiro ‘m’, Prince Precious Bassey ‘m’ and other now at large, in the same month and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal one iron gate valued N800,000.00 and foreign canopy value N8,000,000.00 total value N8,800,000.00 (eight million eight hundred thousand Naira only) property of one Mrs. Diamond Joy Rich ‘f and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
