2 Men Arrested For Vandalizing Railway Iron Fence To Sell As Scraps

Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested two men, Onyekachi Paul, 29 and Kelvin Louis, 23, for allegedly vandalizing railway iron fence mounted by Lagos State Government to sell as scraps. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects,  Paul and Louis, were caught at No. 339 Oshodi Agege Motor Road, Ilupeju area of Lagos, after they cut the iron fence and tried to escape before the Police at Ilupeju Division on routine monitoring apprehended and detained them at the station for interrogation.

 

While being interrogated, the suspects admitted to have vandalized the items, which they claimed to have wanted to sell as scraps before they were arrested by the Police.

 

The Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

Part of the charges read :

That you, Onyekachi Paul ‘m’, Kelvin Louis ‘m’ and others at large. On the 21/07/2024 at No. 339 Oshodi Agege Motor Road in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did conspire between yourselves to commit felony to with stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

That you, Onyekachi Paul ‘m’, Kelvin Louis ‘m’ on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magistrerial district, did steal Railway  Iron Fence Property of Lagos State Government and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 363 (1) of the minal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
