A woman, Mrs. Ezenwa Chinyere was seriously battered after she refused to pay two men she had engaged as labourers to carry blocks in her compound.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Makzoni Street in Isheri Oshun area in the outskirts of Lagos.

It was gathered that Mrs. Chinyere engaged the workers to carry and park her blocks at the cost of N15 for each block as they agreed. The men worked from morning till evening. When they closed for the day and asked for their money per block from her, the woman began to give excuses.

Mrs. Chinyere informed them that she was not satisfied with their work as she had thought that they will carry the whole blocks that day and for that she will not pay them the agreed money.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that when the men pleaded with her to no avail, they grabbed Mrs. Chinyere and beat her mercilessly injuring her in exchange for their money and left.

Mrs. Chinyere went to the Isheri Oshun Police Division, reported the assault and also claimed that the workers stole her N150,000 and a phone after assaulting her.

One of the workers, Mr. Progress Akpan was later arrested and detained at the police station where he narrated what happened. Akpan reportedly told the police how Mrs. Chinyere had treated them despite the fact that they had families.

It was gathered that the police found Akpan culpable of assaulting Mrs. Chinyere despite what happened.

He was charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court as demanded by Mrs. Chinyere for conspiracy, assault and stealing.

He pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni granted Akpan bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The prosecutor, Inspector G. Simon did not object his bail because the alleged offence that the police said he committed was bailable.

However, Mr. Akpan was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 5 May, 2018.
