2 Men Charged For Running Away With ₦2m Hire Purchase Motorcycle

Two men, Usman Hassan 37 and Feminu Abdul-Raman, 21, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly running away with a N2m hire purchase Bajaj motorcycle belonging to David James.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 26th March,2026 at Ade-Ojo Street, Isheri Oshun, Lagos.
According to the Police, the complainant bought the motorcycle and gave it to the defendants on hire purchase agreement.
But they collected the unregistered motorcycle, went into hiding and disconnected every communication they had with the complainant.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division. The suspects were trailed, eventually arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I:”That you, USMAN HASSAN ‘M’ and FEMINU ABDUL-RAMAN on 26/03/2026 at Ade-Ojo Street, Isheri Oshun, Lagos, in the Lagos State magisterial district, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by running away with one unregistered Brand New Bajaj Motorcycle with Chassis No.: MD2A18AXXTWK-57271 and engine No.: DUXWTK55325, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 (d) of the criminal law of Lagos State, Nigeria.
COUNT II:”That you, USMAN HASSAN ‘M’ and FEMINU ABDUL-RAMAN on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit, felony to wit stealing of brand new Bajaj Motorcycle given to you by one David James and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 141 of criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.
COUNT III: “That you, USMAN HASSAN ‘M’ and FEMINU ABDUL-RAMAN ‘M’ on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal one unregistered Brand Bajaj Motorcycle with Chassis No.: MD2A18AXXTWK-57271 Engine No. DUXWTK55325 given to you on hire purchase at the rate of two million Naira only (N2,000,000.00) by one David James ‘M’, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”
They pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Miss F R Ogunkoyede, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 with sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 23rd June, 2026, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
