2 Men Docked For Allegedly Stealing N5.2m Glo Batteries In Ikorodu

Two men have been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court over the alleged theft of GLO telecommunication equipment worth N5,250,000 in Ikorodu axis of Lagos State.

The defendants, Bright Goodluck, 32, and Oluwatosin Sanni, 32, were brought before the court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendants and others now at large committed the offence on 15th October, 2025, at about 0800hrs within the Ikorodu Magisterial District.

According to the charge sheet, the first count stated that the duo conspired together to commit a felony to wit: stealing, an offence punishable under section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The second count alleged that the defendants stole 21 Soton Batteries used to power a Glo mast, property of Glo Communication Limited.

The prosecutor stated that the value of the stolen batteries was put at Five Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira. The batteries are critical infrastructure used to power telecommunications networks in the area.

The offence, the charge read, is contrary to section 280 and punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. If convicted, the defendants risk several years imprisonment.

The charge sheet was signed and approved by the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, Office, Ogba, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, after legal advice.

The Investigation Police Officer was listed as Inspector Yazeed Adebisi of the Command Special Squad 2, who led the investigation into the matter.

Legal experts say theft of telecoms equipment is a serious offence in Lagos because it affects network service and costs companies millions in replacement and downtime.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

 

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendants bail with two sureties each who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
