Two men, Muiz Azeez, 20 and Idris Omotosho, 25, have landed trouble in Lagos State for allegedly begging for alms on the road before they were caught by the Police.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the duo was arrested and charged over their alleged conduct.
The incident happened on 12th August, 2025, at about 9:00pm along Abeokuta Lagos Expressway, Abule Egba, Lagos where they were apprehended.
According to the Police, the suspects were caught while the Police at Oke-Odo Division were on routine monitoring in the area and saw them while begging for alms on the road.
They were subsequently arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct. They were found culpable having confirmed that they were actually begging for alms.
They were consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Muiz Azeez ‘m’ and Idris Omotosho ‘m’ and others now at large on the 12th day of August, 2025, at about 9:00pm along Abeokuta-Lagos expressway, Abule Egba, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit misdeneanour to wit: conduct likely to cause breach of peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 412 of the criminal w of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:” That you, Muiz Azeez ‘m’ and Idris Omotosho ‘m’ and others now at large on the same day, time, and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by begging for alms and found wandering near Abule Egba highway under such circumstances as led to the conclusion that you were there for an illegal or disorderly purpose and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 (1) (b) (d) and (h) and punishable under Section 168 (2) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted them bail in the sum of N350,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
