CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

Police detectives have arrested two suspects, Ndubuisi Kalu and Filani Olayemi allegedly printed and sold Nigeria National Identification Cards to foreigners who trooped to the Synagogue Church of All Nations to worship.

The suspects were arrested at the adjoining street to the church headquarters in Agodo Egbe, Lagos. They were arrested at a registration centre they mounted close to the church following a tip off by the church security.

They were brought and arraigned before a Lagos court and remanded in prison custody for the alleged offence.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the suspects met their waterloo after they approached a foreigner, promised to process and print the ID card for a token fee.
It was gathered that unknown to them, the securitymen around the church monitored their activities and went there to interrogate the suspects. It was then realised that they actually procured the cards which they initially claimed were genuine.

They were handed over to the police at Area M Idimu who charged to court for prosecution. When they were brought to court, they pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrates, Mrs A.O Adedayo granted them bail with two sureties in like sum. They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 10 November, 2017.

While they were being taken to Kirikiri prison , Olayemi told P.M.EXPRESS that they were one of the accredited centers empowered to process the registration of the National ID cards. He claimed that all they did was to collect a token from their clients and process the detail which they will then take to go to their local government areas and complate processing of the cards. He also denied processing the cards for foreigners and said it was an attempt by the police to punish him.
In the same vein, Kalu said he went behind the church premises to fish when the church securitymen apprehended and handed him over to the police.
He was unable to explain whether the church premises had a fish pond where he could have gone for fishing.
