Police operatives of the Tactical team of the Lagos State Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers, Samuel Peter, 41 and Ezeigbo Chibuike, 37, for being in possession of live cartridge in a popular hotel.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Peter and Chibuike were arrested at the popular Ezeigbo Hotel, Satelite town area of Lagos, with the live ammunition and were suspected to be armed robbers.

They were apprehended and detained at the Lagos State Command for interrogation but they denied being armed robbers that wanted to rob customers of their valuables in the hotel.

However, they were not able to explain to the Police satisfactorily what they were using the live ammunition found with them for and were found culpable for the alleged criminal conduct.

The Police subsequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, Samuel Peter’m’ and Ezeigbo Chibuike m’ and others now at large, on the 10th of December, 2025, at about 1230hrs, at Ezeigbo Hotel, Satelite Area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial Destrict, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit unlawful possession of one live cartridge and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Samuel Peter ‘m’, Ezeigbo Chibuike ‘m’ and others now at on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession one live cartridge ammunition which you cannot satisfactory account how you came about it and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 330(d) of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

However, the defendants plea were not taken following a motion by the prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, ordered their remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the report of the DPP’s legal advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
