Two suspected members of proscribed Alora Confratemity, Oseni Ibrahim, 35 and Iloye Samuel, have been arrested with arms including live ammunition inside the campus of Yaba College of Technology in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 28th January,2025, at the campus.
After their arrest by operatives from the Sabo Division, they have been charged for conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society and possession of firearms under the criminal laws of the State.
They were later transferred to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad at the State Command, Ikeja, for further investigation over their activities at the campus to know if they were armed robbers or just cult members.
During interrogation, they confessed that they belonged to a cult group and were not armed robbers, which did not save them from being culpable.
The Police charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Oseni Ibrahim ‘m’, Iloye Samuel ‘m’ and others still at large, on the 28th day of January, 2025 at about 1430hrs, at Yaba College of Technology Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: membership of unlawful society and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II; That you, Oseni Ibrahim ‘m’, Iloye Samuel ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did belong to Alora confraternity, which is proscribed by Law as an unlawful society and thereby committed an offence Punishable under Section 2(3)(a)(b)(c) (d) of the Unlawful Societies Prohibition and Cultism Law of Lagos State, 2021.”
COUNT III:” That you, Oseni Ibrahim ‘m’ and others still at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did have in your possession one locally made double barrel pistol with one live cartridge which you cannot give satisfactory account on how you came about it and thereby committed an offence Punishable under Section 330(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, the Court did not take their plea after the prosecutor, Supol Ihkayere, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, ordered their remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
