Police operatives from the Ondo State Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers, Ibrahim Abdulahi, 30 and Abubakar Umaru, 25, over alleged attempts to kidnap a victim and steal his cow.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Abdulahi and Umaru, have been arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State and remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Facility for the alleged kidnapping and theft.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Ondo State Police Command and subsequently arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and attempted kidnapping.

The prosecutor, Owolabi Edu, told the Court that the defendants, along with others at large, committed the offences on 16th  October, 2025, at about 5:45 p.m. in Area Mother, Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Mr. Edu, alleged that the defendants attempted to kidnap a herder, Bello Aliu, and stole his cow valued at N600,000 before being apprehended by the Police.

According to the prosecutor, Abubakar allegedly provided information to Abdulahi and another suspect at large, Sandar, to facilitate the kidnapping operation.

He said  that the offences contravened Sections 4, and 11 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010, as well as Section 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The prosecutor therefore, asked the court to remand the suspects at the correctional facility pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, F.A. Akinboboye, ordered the remand of the defendants at the Olokuta Correctional Centre and directed that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for advice.

The matter was adjourned till 12th December, 2025, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
