Two suspected notorious armed robbers, Opeyemi Ayinla, 28 and Abdulahi Sanni, 25, have been arrested and charged before the Court for armed robbery in Oyo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Iyaganku Magistrate Court sitting in Ibadan ordered their remand in the correctional center for allegedly stealing two motorcycles while armed with weapons.
The defendants were charged for conspiracy and armed robbery under the Criminal Laws of the State and were arraigned before the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, who did not take their plea for want of jurisdiction.
The Court directed the Police prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice and adjourned the matter till 21st October, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
The prosecutor, Inspector Oladejo Balogun, had told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 18, at 4.00 p.m, in the Amuloko area of Ibadan.
According to him, the first defendant, Ayinla, while armed with a hammer and a plank, robbed two commercial motorcyclists, Adekunle Oluranti and Adekunle Olaleye, of their motorcycles worth N920,000 and N800,000, respectively.
Balogun said that the second defendant, Sanni, on the same day received the motorcycles from Ayinla with the knowledge that the motorcycles were stolen.
He said the offences contravened Sections 1(2)(a)(b) and 5 of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
