Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested two suspected thieves, Daniel Effiong, 22 and Emmanuel Ike, 24, for allegedly climbing a fence and burgling a store, from where they carted away cables worth N3.5m belonging to Dr. Mrs. Kemi Ailoje.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at night in July, 2024 at Ladipo Baleye Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos where the owner reside.
According to the Police, the suspects conspired, climbed the fence of the house at night and burgled the store where the items were kept and carted them away.
However, the owner reported the matter to the Police at Ikeja Division. The Police moved into action, eventually arrested the two suspects and detained them at the station for interrogation over the theft.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Evelyn, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M.A. Adegbaye, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 22nd August, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
