Two sisters between the ages of 14 and 18 on their way from a vigil to a church have been attacked and gang raped by 22 members of a dare devil armed robbery gang in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened along Itire Road in Mushin area of Lagos where the victims ran into the robbers in the early hours of the morning (4.30 am).
Police sources said the victims and their brother went to an undisclosed church for a vigil and when the service was over, they decided to leave that early morning when they ran into the robbers who forcefully penetrated them in turns.
Apart from raping the sisters, the robbers stole their phones and other valuables found on them before they allowed them to go.
It was gathered that the gang had been operating in the area, robbing, raping and causing violence within Mushin and its environs which made the police to declare war on them and arrested many.

However, when they were arrested alongside drug dealers, they were charged to court.

But within some weeks, they perfected their bail and came back to continue their operations.
Following the incident, the police moved into action and arrested one of the suspects, a 25-year old Jimoh Egbere and charged before the Ogba Magistrates court for conspiracy, rape and stealing.
The police stated in the charge sheet that Egbere and 21 others now at large did steal and sexually abuse the sisters on their way from vigil.
The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, informed the court that the victim were defiled after they went for vigil and were returning to their house when they were abused.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, did not take the accused’s plea and denied him bail.
The court ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody and directed the prosecutor to duplicate their file and send to DPP for advice.
Police source said that the matter will not be tried at the Magistrates court because it is not within its jurisdiction.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the offence was felony as such will be transferred to the High Court if the DPP report finds Egbere culpable for trial.
The police have also intensified efforts to arrest other suspects in connection with the offence which have left the victims devastated.
