Two teenagers, Abiodun Alabi, 18 and Kehinde Kareem, 18, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly gang-raping a 24-year old lady.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 28th January, 2024, at Irepodun Street, Ijegun area of Lagos, where they reside.
They have been charged for conspiracy and statutory rape under the Criminal Laws of the State over their alleged conduct
According to the Police, the two teenagers allegedly lured the victim to an apartment and forcefully engaged her in sex romp one after the other with a threat to kill her if she refused to cooperate with them.
They forcefully remove her pants and penetrated her in turns and having satisfied themselves, they allowed her to go with a stern warning not to tell anyone about what happened.
However, the victim who was traumatized over their conduct, went to the Police in the area and reported what happened. They were trailed and eventually arrested by the Police and later transferred to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for further interrogation over their alleged conduct.
Afterrrounds of interrogation, the Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However, the Court did not take their plea when they were arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered their remand in custody pending the outcome of the report of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 6th May, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
