2 Women Arraigned For Swindling Man Of N7m Under False Pretence

Two women, Shukura Molade Oluwatoyin, 45 and Adebanjo Adesola,51, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a man, Oluwatosin Solomon Akinade, to the tune of the sum of over N7m under false pretence. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened sometime in 2021 at Ajah area of Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the suspects contacted the complainant and told him that they had some parcels of land, which they wanted to sell in Ajah area of the State. They agreed on the price and the complainant paid.

 

However, trouble started after the payment and the complainant wanted to take possession. They disappointed him and disconnected every communication between them.

 

The matter was reported to the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the women and detained them at the Command for interrogation.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Shukura Molade Oluwatoyin ‘F and Adebanjo Adesola ‘F’ sometime in year 2021 in Ajah, in the Lagos Magisterial district, did conspire to commit felony to wit: obtaining money by false pretence and stealing and therefore, committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT II: “That you, Shukura Molade Oluwatoyin ‘F’ and Adebayo Adesola ‘F’ on the same date and place in aforementioned magisterial district, with intent to defraud did obtain the sum of Seven Million One Hundred Thousand Naira (N7,100,000.00) from one Oluwatosin Solomon Akinade ‘M’ under the pretense that you were selling a plot of land to him knowing fully that you did not have such landed property for sale and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT III: “That you, Shukura Molade Oluwatoyin ‘F’ and Adebayo Adesola ‘F’ on the same date and place in aforementioned magisterial district, did steal the sum of Seven Million One Hundred Thousand Naira (N7,100,000.00) belonging to Oluwatoyin Solomon Akinade ‘M’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 278 of the Criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol  Oladele, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.M.Davies, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
