20,000 Jobs in 100 Days: Najeem Salam’s Commitment Focuses on Family Support, Not Just Aid — Yahaya Majeed

Comrade Yahaya Majeed has characterized the job creation initiative proposed by Najeem Salam, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for governor, as a viable method for addressing poverty and unemployment in Osun State.

Majeed mentioned that Salam’s commitment to hire 20,000 young individuals during his initial 100 days in office, regardless of their political backgrounds, warrants significant consideration from the electorate in Osun.

He noted that this initiative is distinctly different from short-term empowerment programs, highlighting its emphasis on offering lasting positions within the civil service that could support those hired and their families for many years.

“If an individual is hired, many family members will gain from that opportunity. This approach is aimed at elevating people from poverty, rather than merely providing a one-time cash handout,” Majeed stated.

He clarified that Salam is not discussing the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES), but is instead focusing on genuine civil service jobs, suggesting that a stable position could lead to long-term financial stability.

Majeed also questioned the emphasis placed on infrastructure developments, such as flyovers, wondering if there is sufficient traffic in Osun to warrant these types of projects.

“Osun State does not require a flyover. What level of traffic in Osun necessitates the construction of flyovers?” he inquired.

He further criticized the inclination of politicians to highlight infrastructure achievements in other regions, asserting that the local population primarily desires tangible advancements that cater to their immediate requirements.

“No one cares about the roads you built in Kenya. They don’t even acknowledge your work, as they believe it was funded by their tax dollars,” he remarked.

Majeed emphasized that real progress should also uphold the peace and stability of the community, proposing that the effectiveness of governance should be evaluated not solely on physical projects or political promotions, but by its actual impact on improving living conditions for individuals.

While recognizing that Salam’s message might not have gained enough traction among the youth in Osun, Majeed insisted that the initiative merits further scrutiny.

“Najeem’s ideas are practical,” he affirmed, underlining that what the ADC candidate discusses pertains to substantial and enduring employment — the sort that can sustain a livelihood for over 35 years, rather than just temporary financial support.

These statements emerge as political parties ramp up their campaigns in anticipation of the Osun governorship election, with job creation, poverty alleviation, and infrastructure development remaining key topics of discussion.
