The Lagos State Sports Commission, in collaboration with Goldcrest Family Centre, will engage no fewer than 20 primary schools within Surulere Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) in sporting activities to commemorate the Year 2022 International Children’s day on Tuesday, 31 May 2022.
P.M. EXPRESS understands that the event will hold at the Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos with the theme “Intervention for the new Generation”.
The rationale behind the initiative is to leverage the supreme role that sports play in contributing to social change and the all-around development of the child.
This year’s edition, being the pilot of the initiative, will showcase Taekwondo Poomsae and Table Tennis.
The choice of these two sports is that Poomase imparts self-defence techniques which can bring about a reduction in bullying, girl-child molestation, and anti-rape measures, while the latter fosters precision, alertness and concentration which promote academic excellence among children of school age.
The ‘Sport Day’ is aimed at promoting the integration of education and sports which would bring about all-around development of the youth.
