2023: Reasons Successful APC National Convention Unsettles PDP

OGU BUNDU NWADIKE, M.A

Ideally, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should have been the first to congratulate their All Progressives Congress (APC) counterparts for their successful National Convention on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

But instead of congratulating APC, the PDP has become fully incensed and running from pillar to post in a rage, literarily forcing relevant authorities to disregard and discountenance the party’s successful National Convention.
The PDP has resorted to behaving like motor park touts, abusing and insulting APC, and choosing to see only the minute minuses without caring to reckon with the fantabulous pluses of the APC.
The PDP trivializes issues, celebrating actions like sack of an elected governor and some elected legislators, a development in the law and judiciary that they know won’t stand the integrity test of time.
There are some obvious reasons why the successful 2022 APC National Convention has unsettled the PDP. And discussing those reasons forms the central purpose of this short essay.
First, PDP is grave afraid of a rematch with APC in 2023, after they suffered untold defeat, loss and failure in the hands of APC in the 2015 and 2019 general elections. Once beaten, twice shy!
So, fear of another trouncing by APC is a major reason why PDP wishes disqualification and death to APC as the 2023 general elections approach.
Another reason is that in late 2021, the PDP hurriedly assembled some political spent forces as their National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) members, with one State governor boasting of singlehandedly ensuring the ouster of the immediate past National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus!
That State governor has since proved himself to be a major threat to the progress and success of the PDP in the 2023 general elections. He’s the Generalissimo of PDP! He leads and others follow for their own good!
But the ruling APC, having taken quality time to patiently prepare and properly sort things out, with regards to agreement on a harmonious consensus, and ultimately achieving a successful National Convention, have assembled a very formidable harmonious NWC and NEC team.
With the intimidating array of leaders that APC has now put in place, a repeat of the victory of the ruling party in 2023 is very much assured. That has put PDP under severe phobic pressures, pains and pangs.
Be that as it may, instead of playing the village old witch and working extra-hard to cog the wheel of progress of APC across Nigeria, PDP should be gallant in defeat just as APC is malignant in victory.
Party politics apart, APC, PDP and all other political parties are indeed first and foremost a gathering of Nigerians.
Politics is a game of interest and association. There shouldn’t be anger in politics. Sometimes you win, somethings you lose!
For now, obviously APC is winning and PDP is losing. Life goes on. Politics goes on. Politicking goes on!
Nigerians expect peace from politicians and political parties. Let all hands be on deck to ensure that peace reigns supreme in Nigeria.
Using the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, I make bold to join well-meaning people in commending the strenuous efforts of core leaders of the party for accomplishing a very successful National Convention.
May the successful conduct of the National Convention in this 2022 be a harbinger of the good news of multiple successes in the 2023 general elections. To God be the glory!

APC!! Everywhere You Go!!
