The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to uplift the cultural values of individuals for social stability and development of the state.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, charged residents to utilize cultural diversity for the development of the State.

He noted that the 2025 World Cultural Day is scheduled for Wednesday, 21 May, 2025.

Olatubosun therefore, admonished all to play their part to bridge the gap among different cultures, saying this is essential to further achieve peace, development, and stability in Oyo State.

According to the Commissioner, the Oyo state Government is in tandem with the United Nations’ belief in bridging cultural diversity gap.

He further stated that the Governor Seyi Makinde led-administration encourages cordial relationship with other cultures, adding that this has led to achieving a balanced flow of cultural goods and services.

He hinted that the Governor has also magnanimously integrated other cultures into the framework of sustainable development under his government.

The Commissioner said, “the Government of the day has, through its kind gestures, promoted human rights and fundamental freedoms, by absorbing other cultures in the State.”

On the promotion of the Yoruba language, he emphasized the essence of language furtherance which leads to ethical rebirth and value re-orientation among citizens.

He appealed to parents and guardians to promote Yoruba culture and history at homes to enable younger generations to imbibe the values embedded in them.

According to him, the Oyo State Government is making efforts towards using cultural festivals to promote tourism, especially World Sango and World Egungun festivals as well as other cultural heritage.
