The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola otherwise known as Yayi, on Friday disclosed that the Federal Government would commence work on the construction of Border Free Trade Zone (BFTZ) to be located in Imeko Town in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, in December.
The senator, who disclosed this while addressing residents of the local government during a stakeholders town hall meeting held at Onimeko Hall, Imeko, assured them that the project would be captured in the budgetary allocation for next year.
The meeting had representatives of Community Development Associations, CDAs, CAN, League of Imans, NUT, NULGE, Market Women Association, Artisans Association and other civil society bodies from the LGA
He explained that the Border Free Trade Zone project which is being championed by the House Representatives member representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, would not only put Imeko on the global trade map, but would expedite industrial and socioeconomic development of Ogun West senatorial district in general.
Senator Adeola said the FTZ when established, will further open up Imeko and its environs, and enhance agro-processing and trade between Nigeria and the neighboring Republic of Benin as well as other West African countries.
While noting the local government is strategically located and blessed with agricultural and mineral resources, the senator said he adequately captured Imeko-Afon in his 9-Pillar ITESIWAJU Economic Blueprint, stressing that his administration would work to bridge the economic gap the LG and the entire Ogun West has experienced in the last five decades.
Adeola, who said he had facilitated no fewer than 80 infrastructural projects to Imeko-Afon Local Government since he emerged senator three and half years ago, told the gathering that he had personally mobilized contractor to continue the reconstruction work of the Rounda-Alamala Army Barracks-Olorunda Road in the next 48 hours
The senator also said that work would commence immediately on the construction of the second lane on dualized Lafenwa-Crescent University-Rounda Road.
The APC governorship candidate further stated that construction work would soon begin on key nine roads across Imeko Local Government, while the four storey hospital complex located inside the Imeko General Hospital will be completed in January, 2027.
According to him, the complex would be equipped with modern healthcare facilities to provide comprehensive health care services to the people, and attract medical tourism from the Republic of Benin.
“Work on Border Free Trade Zone in Imeko will begin in December, and I assure you it will be part of the budgetary allocation for 2027. I have asked for land to be made available for this massive project. I can’t compromise the development of Ogun West. I want to appeal to our people that we need to work together to break the 50-year jinx.
“As I speak to you, I have personally mobilized the contractor to recommence work on the reconstruction work on Rounda-Alamala Army Barracks-Olorunda Road in the next 48 hours. Similarly, work will commence on the second lane of dualized Lafenwa-Crescent University-Rounda Road. Still on roads, I have instructed contractors to begin work on the construction of nine key roads across Imeko-Afon LG, while construction of modern classrooms will immediately commence in Community High School, Iwoye Ketu and Community Comprehensive College Idofa” he stated.
Senator Adeola said that four-storey hospital complex he facilitated, and being constructed inside Imeko General Hospital will be completed in January adding that it will be equipped with modern and world class medical equipment.
“Apart from providing comprehensive health care services to our people, it will also target medical tourism from the neighbouring Republic of Benin”, Adeola stated.
While promising that he would fulfill his electoral promises as contained in his manifesto and grant requests made by the residents during the town hall meeting, if he is elected governor in 2027, the senator called for massive votes for all the candidates of the APC.
Earlier in his remarks, member of House of Representatives representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency and the 2027 APC House of Reps candidate, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, commended Senator Adeola for facilitating massive infrastructural projects to Imeko-Afon Local Government.
He noted that the local government possesses 20% of the total land mass of Ogun State, noting the Border Free Trade Zone project when established would create thousands of jobs for the youth and enhance industrialization.
The Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite, noted that projects facilitated by Senator Adeola to the local government have transformed the socioeconomic development of the LG, while his empowerment programmes have helped many residents.
The deputy governor in Ogun State, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, member representing Ogun State in the Federal Character Commission, Kayode Oladele and the Director-General of the Ogun APC Campaign Council, Senator Lekan Mustapha, in their respective remarks at town hall meeting urged the gathering to mobilize support and vote massively for all the APC candidates starting from the Presidential and National Assembly elections slated for January 16, 2027.
In a similar stakeholder meeting at Ayetoro, Yewa North LGA, where the senator has facilitated 120 infrastructural projects spanning roads, school buildings, ultra modern markets, hospitals, solar street lights, ICT Centres among others, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Kunle Salako, the State Commissioner for Housing , Hon Akanbi Omoniyi, the Olu of Imasayi Oba Lukmon Olalekan Kuoye all in appreciation of Senator’ performance promised at least 100,000 votes for the senator during the governorship election as well as other APC candidates in the LGA.
