CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 22-year-old man, David Baruaki, was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ejigbo, Lagos State, on a two-count charge of alleged burglary and stealing. The charge sheet listed the Commissioner of Police as complainant.
According to the charge document, the defendant, David Baruaki ‘m’, is aged 22 years. His address was listed as No 6, Nkiru Ezekiel Avenue, Bucknor, Ejigbo, Lagos State. The document was signed by CSP Omisore Abiodun of Ejigbo Police Station.
Count 1 on the charge sheet stated that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on 10th day of May, 2026, at about 9:00am. He was accused of breaking and entering into the dwelling of one Patrick Obiajulu at the address within the Ejigbo Magisterial District.
The charge stated that the alleged act of breaking and entering was contrary to and punishable under Section 309(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. The document was processed within the Ejigbo Magisterial District.
Count II alleged that on the same date, time and place, the defendant stole several items. The items listed in the charge included one iPhone XS Max, one Redmi A5, three wrist watches, two necklaces described as gold and silver, three shoes, one palm slippers, clothes, perfumes, and a generator coil.
On the charge sheet, it was stated that the items were valued at N7,522,000.00, (Seven Million Five Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand Naira). It also listed a cash sum of N155,000.00, One Hundred and Fifty Five Thousand Naira, allegedly stolen.
The offence of stealing, as contained in Count II, was said to be punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. Both counts were filed by the Commissioner of Police.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to provide evidence.
According to the document, the Presiding Magistrate, Miss F.R Ogunkoyede, granted him bail in the sum of N1.5 million with sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The Investigating Police Officer, I.P.O, listed on the charge sheet was Inspector Ajigboye Temitayo.
The charge sheet indicated that the matter was adjourned to 30/6/2026 for further proceedings.
The charge sheet represents allegations made by the prosecution. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. All parties are entitled to fair hearing under the Nigerian law.
