Three suspects, Livinus Onyeaka, 47, Gbadebo Odunusi, 66 and Emeka Ihenotuho, 65, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly  buying a duplex worth millions of Naira from a dead woman.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects allegedly forged documents of the house located at Elero Street, Araromi Bus Stop, Akesan area of Lagos, which belonged to Dr Kenneth Onieselehi and took possession of the house.
However, when the owner,  Dr Onieselehi, confronted them they claimed that they bought the property from the owner’s wife, who had died long ago and  claimed that they had the legal documents, which they used to buy the house.
The matter was reported to the Police at Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos. The suspects were arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
During interrogation, they presented the documents which they claimed were issued to them but it turned out that the documents were forged and owner’s wife, who they claimed to have sold the house was already dead and they cannot present her as a witness.
The Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy, forgery, illegal selling and interfering with the property without the consent of the owner,  Dr Onieselehi.
However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor,  Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendants pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 31st January, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
