Three security guards at Chrisland College in Lagos State have been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing school property worth N1.4m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the school located at Ejigbo Road, Idimu area of Lagos.
The affected guards were David Idjevhe, 60, James Gabriel, 28 and Isaiah Odah, 52.
The security guards were alleged to have gone to the place where the used items were kept and stole them, which they denied. But the management insisted that they stole the items or they should provide who stole them as they were there as the school’s security guards.
Some of the items alleged stolen included 13 pieces of air conditioning compressors, water dispenser compressors, power generating set battery and others worth the said amount of money.
The matter was reported to the Police at Idimu Division after the management discovered that the items were missing and mentioned the guards as the prime suspects.
The security guards were then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the missing items and they were unable to explain how they got missing.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found them culpable and then charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy and stealing.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendants pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment with their addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 24th November, 2023, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
