3 Domestic Workers Docked For Stealing Assorted Gold Jewelries Worth N100m

Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department,Yaba, have arrested three suspects, Obinna Nwanchi, 29, Miss Chioma Duruna, 20  and Anthony Anuruo, 29, for allegedly stealing gold jewelries worth over N100m belonging to Mrs. Raheem Abiola in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened sometime in March, 2025, at Emma Abimbola Cole, Lekki Phase 1 Lagos, where the complainant resides.

 

According to the Police, the suspects went to the place where the complainant kept the assorted pieces of gold bracelets, 7 gold necklaces, diamond bracelets, Cuban consonant earrings and wrist watch all valued the N100m and carted them away.

 

The complainant later discovered that the items were missing and reported the matter to the Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspects and detained them for interrogation.

 

The Police found them culpable after interrogation and consequently charged them before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Obinna Nwanchi ‘M’, Chioma Duruna Y and Anthony Anuruo ‘m’ on or before 31st March, 2025, at Emma Abimbola Cole, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, Obinna Nwanchi ‘M’, Chioma Duruna ‘f’ and Anthony Anuruo ‘m’ on or before 31st day of March, 2025, at No.8, Emma Abimbola Cole, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial district, did knowingly steal assorted pieces of Gold Bracelets, 7 Gold Necklaces, Diamond Bracelets, Cuban Consonant earrings and wrist watch all valued the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000.00), property of Mrs. Raheem Abiola ‘ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Alaka, granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties each in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
