Police Operatives have arrested three acclaimed Islamic clerics for allegedly engaging in fraud and serial rape of female victims under the false pretence of conducting deliverance in Ogun State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the clerics identified as Aliu Abdulfatai, 50; Sule Adebayo, 36 and Lekan Olokodana, 31, were reportedly arrested following a report by one of their victims.
It was gathered that the suspects specialised in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public posing as Alfa to lure them. The female victims were debased by raping them at the same time defrauding them.
This was disclosed by the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday. He said a female victim (name withheld) reported at Adigbe Police Station that she was duped of N70,000 by the suspects and also raped by one of them.
DSP Oyeyemi disclosed that investigation revealed that one of the clerics had used the proceeds of their fraudulent act to build a private school in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The Police spokesman stated that the suspects got in contact with the female victim, who is a marketer with a real estate company, on the pretext that they wanted to purchase a large expanse of land. When she fell into their trap, she was duped and raped before they allowed her to go. Having realised that she had been duped, she went to the Police and reported what happened.
The Police then trailed, arrested and detained them at the Station for investigation.
Oyeyemi said that the suspects will be charged to Court after the conclusion of investigations.
