Three men have been arrested and charged for allegedly gang raping a
19-year old girl, having accosted her and forcefully engaged her in sex romp by the roadside in Agege area of Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 28th July, 2023, by the roadside along Surulere Road, Dopemu area of Lagos, at about 11.00pm while she was going home from work.
The three men, Oseni Sunday, 23, Adebayo Oluwafemi, 25 and Sunday Owata, 42, were later arrested following a report to the Police in the area over the alleged dastardly act.
They were transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command for further investigation. And after thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The Police alleged the defendants to have conspired, raped the girl and having satisfied themselves, they allowed her to go before she reported the matter to the Police.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ajayi Emmanuel, told the Court that the defendants committed the alleged offence, which contravened Section 411and 260 of the criminal code of the State.
However, the Court did not take their plea when they were arraigned after the prosecutor asked the Court to give a date and refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the case.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Raji, ordered the defendants to be remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 21st September, 2023, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
