Police operatives from the Ondo State Command have arrested three suspected kidnappers, recovered one locally-fabricated revolver pistol and other weapons during a routine stop-and-search operation in the state.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects identified simply as Umar, Muhammadu and Saibu, were intercepted and arrested by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Team at Ibule Junction along Ilara Road in Ifedore Local Government Area of the State.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the arrest and further stated that the Command also recovered one machete, one live cartridge and a Bajaj motorcycle as exhibits during the operation.
DSP Jimoh stated, “During the operation, the suspects were thoroughly searched, leading to the recovery of one machete, one locally-fabricated revolver pistol, one live cartridge, and a Bajaj motorcycle,” he said.
“The suspects could not give satisfactory explanation for being in possession of these items. Following their apprehension, the suspects made useful confessional statements, which have provided valuable leads and are significantly aiding ongoing investigations.”
“These revelations have assisted the Command in identifying other members of the criminal gang believed to be responsible for terrorising residents of Ondo State, particularly from neighbouring communities.”
“Efforts have since been intensified to apprehend other suspects, while all those found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law.
Upon the conclusion of investigations, the arrested suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” he said.
Jimoh said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their prompt and professional conduct.
“The CP says the arrest underscored the importance of intelligence-led stop-and-search operations in disrupting criminal activities and preventing the proliferation of illicit arms.”
“Lawal reassures residents of the state that the Command remains resolute and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.”
Accordingly, the Command has called on members of the public to continue to cooperate with Police operatives during stop-and-search operations.
“Promptly report any suspicious movement, object, or person to the nearest police station or security post, as public cooperation remains central to effective policing,” he stated.
