Three cable vandals have been arrested and charged for allegedly digging the ground at night and cutting off armoured cables worth N320m, which supply electricity power to the International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects,  Popoola Idris Omotayo, 28, Christian Emmanuel, 23 and Ali Abdullahi, were alleged to have dug the ground and cut 4,000 meters of M27 electricity armoured cables worth the said amount belonging to FAAN.
The incident happened at about 3.00am at FAAN Training School, besides Muritala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspects and others at large were alleged to have conspired and stolen the items at night and escaped without any trace by the security personnel at the airport.
However, in the morning, the management discovered the theft and the power outage. They then reported the matter to the Police at International Airport Division. The suspects were arrested and subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy, malicious damage and stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The Court did not take their plea when they were arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Uche Irabor, asking the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendants pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.A Agbejo, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment with their addresses verified by the Court.
The defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail onditions while the matter was adjourned till 5th September, 2023, for mention .
