Through Intelligence the Police in Lagos have uncovered a fake factory where assorted adulterated top alcoholic drinks were produced in the state.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the illegal factory was located on Lagos Island, from where the drinks were produced and supplied to various markets in the state.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, on behalf of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu.
He said that on 20th June, 2019, at about 12.00noon, based on information received about illegal production of alcoholic beverages at No. 5 Chapel Street off Apongbon, Lagos Island, a team of operatives from the State Intelligence Bureau was deployed to the area on surveillance patrol. The operations led to the arrest of three suspects namely: Dare Shittu, 27, Shittu Opeyemi Abdusalam,19, and Oyenuga Biola, 29.
DSP Elkana revealed that large quantity of alcoholic beverages suspected to be adulterated were recovered as exhibits and were in police custody.
He mentioned that the alcoholic beverage brands included, Hennessy VSOP, Hennessy Xo, Moet Chandon, Jack Daniel, Remy Martins, Red Label and others. He said that the items Police also recovered at the illegal production mini factory were jerry cans of substances suspected to be ethanol, cognac coloration, rubber cocks, top cocks, labels, stickers and other instruments used in the illegal business.
He said that the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime and mentioned their principal, who is now at large. The Police are on the trail of one Prince Fatai Shittu, who was said to be brain behind the illegal operations.
He said that the suspects were charged to Court after the conclusion of the investigation and were remanded in prison custody.
