Four men, Oluwasegun Ayobami, 38, Bernard Chukwuemeka, 27, Vincent Okorie, 55 and Onwe Joshua, 45, have been arrested for allegedly conspiring to steal and receive company’s goods worth over N2.2m in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at K-mart company located at 33 Kudiyebu Street, ljegun area of Lagos.
While the suspects, Ayobami and Chukwuemeka, were said to have stolen the items from the company, they allegedly sold them to Vincent Okorie and Onwe Joshua at an undisclosed reduced price.
According to the Police, the first two suspects were caught while diverting the C-way goods from the company and were handed over to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division for interrogation over the alleged offence.
During interrogation, they mentioned the two other suspects as the receivers of the items. They were also arrested and detained at the station.
The Police found them culpable after thorough interrogation and charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I:”That you, Oluwasegun Ayobami, Bernard Chukwuemeka and others now at large on the 09/04/2025 at N0. 33 Kudiyebu Street, ljegun in the Lagos magisterial district, did conduct yourselves in a way and manner likely to cause a breach of peace by diverting the C-way water plastic products from K-mart company to an unknown destination without the concept of the company, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 (d) criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Oluwasegun Ayobami, Bernard Chukwuemeka and others now at large on the same date, place and time in the aforementioned magisterial district, did conspire together to commit felony to wit stealing of C-way water plastic products from K-mart company, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 criminal law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Oluwasegun Ayobami, Bernard Chukwuemeka and others now at large on the same date, place and time in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal 562 plastic products of C-way from K-mart company valued at N2,248,000.00 (two million two hundred and forty eight thousand Naira), property of K-mart Company, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT IV:”That you, Vincent Okorie and Onwe Joshua on the 9/04/2025 in the aforementioned magisterial district, did receive 562 plastic products of C-way valued at N2,248,000.00 (two million two hundred and forty eight thousand Naira) from one Bernard Chukwuemeka ‘M’ knowing fully to have been stolen from K-mart Company, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 328 criminal law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
