It was a bad day for some bandits as peace returned to the Ejigbo community in Lagos following killing of four notorious armed robbers during a gun battle with the police in Lagos.
The incident happened at a notorious jungle called ‘Agbole’ off Lafenwa Road in Ejigbo where they used as base for many years.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the residents went wild in jubilation following the killing of the well known dreaded armed robbers and cultists, who had terrorised the residents for several years.
The robbers met their dead end when they attacked some police officers who went there to retrieve a vehicle they snatched and kept there.
It was gathered that when the local police from Ejigbo Division went to the place, the men shot and chased the police away.
Unknown to them the officers who reinforced and went for the operation were men from the State Anti Robbery Squad, SARS led by CSP Ahmed Sanusi.
It was gathered that after the gang had over powered the local police at the division, the DPO sought the assistance of the Commissioner of Police who deployed the SARS team to retrieve the vehicle.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped that when the SARS operatives got to Agbole, the robbers attacked and shot at the officers but they were so unlucky that the officers who went for the operation were more superior to them.
Four of the suspects were gunned down and they died at the spot and the rest fled.
The identity of the victims were not disclosed but the residents knew the suspects and their activities at Coker and NNPC area in Ejigbo.
The residents confirmed the incident.
They said the robbers were killed, the police also retrieved their corpses and deposited at the morgue.
P.M.EXPRESS visited Agbole and the adjoining streets in the area.
They were peaceful unlike in the past when there was always violence due to the activities of the bandits.
The residents attributed it to the recent invasion by SARS and commended the police for bringing sanity to the area.
When our correspondent visited the Ejigbo Police Division, the new DPO was not around to comment on the matter.
However, sources at the station confirmed the incident but did not give details of what happened because the officers came from the State Command.
When the Police PPRO was contacted for comments, his phone was switched off.
