There is a twist over the arrest of four police officers attached to FCIID Alagbon Command, who were arrested for allegedly using their AK-47 guns to force victims to bank ATM to withdraw an undisclosed sum of money in exchange for their lives at Lekki area of Lagos.

The officers were said to have regained their freedom having been detained for several weeks. They were said to have undergone room trial but have reportedly sorted themselves out and gone back to their respective duty posts.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the officers, three Inspectors of Police namely Akohan Uwadiegwu, Amadi Johnson, Uyabeme Collins and one Sergeant Akinbo Seyi, were arrested after they reportedly ambushed two victims, Samuel Nzube and Mohammed Shola at Jakande gate in Lekki and marched them inside the bush from where they negotiated for ransom.
However, while they went with the victims to the bank, information leaked to Area J Commander, ACP Gbolahan Olugbeni, who went on air to announce the dastardly act and the DPO Ilasan Division, CSP Onyinye Onwuamegbu, moved officers to apprehend them at Lekki Road. They were eventually arrested and detained at Lagos Police Command, Ikeja.

It was gathered that the victims, Nzube and Shola, were driving along Lekki Epe Road in a Toyota Camry with registration number AA 11 AW when the police officers reportedly ambushed them with a hired bus with registration number BDG 670 XR. They were said to have pointed guns at them while one of the officers entered the car and forced them to an isolated bush where they threatened to kill them as armed robbers.

They were said to have instilled fear in them, making the victims to plead with them to spare their lives and were then forced to pay ransom in exchange for their lives. It was while they were being taken to the bank ATM that information leaked and they were arrested. The officers were summarily tried at the X Squad of the Lagos Command who then referred them to the Provost for room trial.

It was gathered that the Provost office concluded the investigation, found them culpable and recommended their dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force to the then Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal. The officers were then transferred to FCIID Lagos Annex for implementation of the trial where they were said to have sorted themselves out and have since resumed duty in their posts.

When P.M.EXPRESS contacted the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, he confirmed that the officers were arrested and tried by the Command but since they were not under the Command, they were transferred to FCIID to implement the decision.
Since 25th January, 2019, when the incident happened and they were tried and found culpable, the officers were said to have continued to work and operate with impunity.
Efforts to reach the Force PPRO, Mr. Frank Mba, proved abortive as his known phone number was switched off.
