5 Men Rape, Impregnate 16-Year Old Maid

The police at Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos on Thursday arrested five men who allegedly raped and impregnated a 16-year old house maid in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Liasu Road by Ile Ewe bus stop in Idimu area of Lagos.

The arrest of the suspects followed a petition to the Area Commander, ACP Toyin Agbaminola, by the guardian of the victim who ordered for their arrest. The identities of the suspects were not disclosed by the police but they were seen detained in the cell at the Area M command, Idimu, Lagos.

Police sources said that the suspects were alleged to have lured the victim and had carnal knowledge of her severally before it was exposed. Apart from engaging the victim in sex romps, they were said to have taken advantage of the situation to loot the shop left in the care of the victim.

According to the guardian, she had brought the 16-year old victim from the Eastern part of the country as a house help and asked her to be staying in her shop whenever she returned from school. She narrated that she noticed that her shop was going down and she decided to find out why it was so. She also noticed changes on the body of the victim and then confronted her. She opened up to her guardian and a laboratory test was conducted. The result of the test showed that the maid was pregnant as a result of the rape by the same people who also looted the shop.
She said that when the victim was further interrogated, she mentioned those who had raped her and they were up to eight persons but the police were able to arrest only five.

When our correspondent visited Area M Command, the Area Commander was not around to comment on the matter. However, sources at the Command confirmed the incident and said that the police have arrested some suspects in connection with the alleged rape. They also said that the Area Commander had given directive that the matter should be transferred to the Gender Section of the Command at Ikeja, Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS spoke with the 16-year old maid and she admitted that she slept with the suspects but cannot ascertain who actually impregnated her among them. One of the residents suggested that the suspects be compelled to undertake the care of the pregnancy until a DNA test will be conducted to determine the father of the baby.

A police source at the Command said that it was a case of felony because of the age of the victim and the suspects may be jailed up to 10 years if they were found guilty.
