6 Suspected Fraudsters Disguised As Gamblers Remanded In Custody For Fraud

Six suspected fraudsters, Amaike Nelson, Kenneth Opuana, Oguntade Olusegun, Ogologo Obi, Goodluck Abel, and Oluwafunmilayo Adebimpe, who disguise as gamblers and specialised in swindling unsuspecting members of the public under the pretence of selecting a “lucky number” in exchange for a non-existent mobile phone, have been remanded by a Lagos Court.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the aforementioned suspected fraudsters  were remanded in custody following their arraignment before the Court by  the Lagos Task Force for the alleged fraud.

The Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Task Force, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, on Sunday stated that the suspects were arrested after they allegedly swindled a 19-year-old lady of her phone and personal belongings using fraudulent tactics.

 

He said, “According to the victim, she was passing by when an elderly man, later identified as Oguntade Olusegun, approached her pretending to be a bystander seeking help to pick a lucky number from a display presented by the group”.

“Upon losing the game, her phone was seized, and the group swiftly fled the scene. She was also threatened to pay the sum of one hundred thousand Naira to collect her phone back.”

He added that during the suspects’ arrest, the Task Force operatives discovered several empty cartons of various mobile phones in their custody. They were subsequently arrested and arraigned on five counts bordering on gambling, stealing and conspiracy, among others.

 

“During the operation, the suspects were also found in possession of several empty packs of different brands of Android phones, believed to be used in deceiving unsuspecting victims.”

“Following their arrest, the suspects were arraigned in court, where they pleaded guilty to a five-count charge including gambling, extortion, stealing, and conspiracy.”

“The case has been adjourned to August 7, 2025. All suspects have been remanded to a correctional facility pending further proceedings.”

Abdulraheem noted that the chairman of the agency, Adetayo Akerele, who led the operation, warned residents of the state to desist from fraudulent activities.

He emphasised that the agency will not tolerate criminal behaviour and is committed to making Lagos State uninhabitable for criminal elements.

 

“The Lagos State Task Force remains resolute in its mission to uphold law and order and will continue to clamp down on all forms of criminality. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities through the agency’s ‘See Something, Say Something’ initiative,” he concluded.
